Event Description

Create a Supportive Campus Environment for Students Who Are Also Parents

Pregnancy and parenthood choices are a personal, natural part of life. Yet, on university and college campuses, employees and students are particularly vulnerable to judgements about these choices—such as breast feeding, pumping, or excused class time. They can lead to discrimination towards pregnant women, single mothers, and parents of either gender. Such discrimination is a direct violation of civil rights—one that could put your university or college at legal risk.

Thankfully, this is a largely preventable risk. In this informative webinar, sexual harassment expert Dr. Susan Fineran will teach you to stop pregnancy-based sex discrimination at your institution—and to instead provide needed support services to students who are, or are about to become, parents.

Compliance with Title IX and Title VII begins with understanding how discrimination affects students and employees on college campuses. At the end of this session, you will have the data you need to improve policies related to pregnancy/parent discrimination, provide resources to help pregnant or parenting students to achieve their educational goals, and facilitate a supportive environment for all.
