Event Description

Social Education: Teaching Adolescents and Young Adults the Ways of the World

Many teens and young adults lack the skills necessary to manage their personal perspective, connect constructively with peers, or develop a sense of community more broadly. For this reason, social skills education has become the greatest need among young people. Many of the tragedies we hear about, namely school shootings, cyberbullying, and suicide, can be traced back to a lack of social awareness and a lack of empathy.

Join Mary Louise Collins as she shares concrete strategies that educators can implement both in and out of the classroom to address the social education of adolescents and young adults. In this information-packed presentation, Collins will teach you how to incorporate various strategies into already-existing courses and orientations. She will explain how this kind of social awareness mitigates isolation and depression, connects them more strongly with each other, and offers opportunities for cross-generational appreciation.

After attending this live webinar, you will be able to create – and justify the inclusion of – a developmentally-appropriate education curriculum for adolescents and young adults that incorporates the teen as an individual, in relation to peers, and in connection with the community. And the concrete results will appear in the changes your students exhibit.
